COSTUME IDEAS

Commitment level: optional. Results: guaranteed.

🎿 The Neon Racer, EASY
One-piece neon ski suit (thrift shops, eBay, your parents' attic). Add mirrored aviators and a headband. You're done in 30 seconds and you'll win photos all day.
Key piece: The one-piece. Everything else is optional.

🩱 The Jane Fonda, MEDIUM
Leotard over tights, leg warmers over ski boots, sweatband. Surprisingly functional for skiing. The leg warmers actually keep your shins warm.
Key piece: The sweatband. It sells the whole look.

🤘 The Hair Metal Shredder, COMMITTED
Big wig (or tease your actual hair), bandana, ripped band tee over thermals, spandex pants. Bonus: air guitar on every chairlift.
Key piece: The wig. Commit to the volume.

🕶️ Miami Vice, MEDIUM
Pastel blazer (sleeves pushed up), white t-shirt underneath, no socks visible. Sunglasses mandatory.
Key piece: The pastel blazer.

🕹️ Pac-Man / Arcade Hero, COMMITTED
Yellow poncho shaped like Pac-Man, pixel-art accessories, game-themed goggles. Or just wear a yellow shirt with Pac-Man iron-on. Both work.
Key piece: Anything yellow + round = you're Pac-Man.

💃 The Flashdance, EASY
Off-shoulder sweatshirt (cut the collar), leggings, leg warmers, messy updo. Jennifer Beals would approve.
Key piece: The cut sweatshirt. Literally just scissors + any crew neck.

APRES SPOTS

Where to land after the last run. Costumes encouraged, dignity optional.

Pickle Barrel, THE MOVE
Saturday: Pop Rocks (ThePopRocksCT). Doors 9 PM, open until 2 AM. 21+. 100+ from Killington Mountain Lodge heading over. CT's ultimate 80s experience. Get there early or become part of the line.

Jax Food & Games, ARCADE VIBES
Actual arcade games. In an 80s weekend. The irony writes itself. Great cocktails, good food, vintage pinball.

Lookout Bar & Grill, APRES CLASSIC
Slopeside at K-1. First stop off the mountain. Frozen drinks when it's 30 degrees because rules don't apply in March.

The Foundry, UPSCALE
When you want to class it up but you're still wearing neon. Craft cocktails, wood-fired everything.

Wobbly Barn, LEGENDARY
The original Killington apres institution since 1963. Saturday: Gunpowder Irish Gin Happy Hour at 4 PM with Jamie's Junk Show and Jenny & The Bets. Then live music and packed dance floor all night.

Killington Distillery, 80s APRES PARTY
Back to the 80s Edition. Saturday 3-7 PM, outdoor patio. Live DJ, drinks, Mountain Water case giveaway + complimentary new flavor samples while supplies last. 47 Old Mill Road, Killington.

Sunup Bakery, MORNING AFTER
Sunday morning. Coffee. Breakfast sandwich. No judgment on last night's decisions. They've seen worse.

LOCAL TIPS

  1. Morning corn is everything. Late March means freeze-thaw cycles. Hit the groomers by 9 AM while the surface is still firm, then ride the softening snow until noon.
  2. Layer for 40-degree swings. It might be 15 degrees at first chair and 50 by 2 PM. Zip-off layers over your costume. Nobody looks cool shivering.
  3. Superstar will be open. 35 feet of man-made base. This trail will outlive us all. Catch it before the crowds on Saturday morning.
  4. Book a place with a hot tub. After 6 hours in a spandex onesie, you'll want to soak. Trust the process.
  5. Bring sunscreen. March sun at altitude is no joke. The goggle tan is free but the burn is not. SPF 30 minimum.
  6. Saturday is the main event. If you can only do one day, make it Saturday. Costume parade at 11, judging at 3:30, dance party at night.
  7. Thrift before you buy. Rutland has thrift shops 30 minutes south. Stop on your way in. You'll find gold for $12.
